Separation Anxiety in Dogs Teeth Misalignment

Malocclusion is usually caused because the teeth are crowded or misalignment of teeth, crossbite, overbite or beatings.

Malocclusion can cause problems with biting, gingival tissue, jaw joint.

Usually a puppy will have 28 baby teeth at six months old. By the time we reach adulthood, most breeds of dogs have 42 teeth. A misalignment of the dog's teeth, or malocclusion occurs when the bite does not fit. This can start when they leave the puppy's teeth and usually worsens as their adult teeth.

smaller front teeth between canines in upper and lower jaw are called incisors. These are used to grasp food and to keep the tongue inside the mouth. Canines (also called fangs) are behind the front teeth used to grasp. Behind the canines are the premolars (or bicuspids) and its function is to cut the food. The molars are the last teeth in the back of the mouth and are used for chewing. Symptoms and Types

common problems that can arise from malocclusion:

◦ Mouth sores

◦ ◦ periodontal disease in soft tissue defects from tooth contact with the bottom of the mouth and
palate teeth wear ◦ ◦ Fractures

If problems persist with the palate, a fistula may result can be infected. In cases of misaligned teeth (or malocclusion), the dog may have difficulty chewing, picking up food, and may be inclined to eat only larger pieces. They are also prone to develop tartar and plaque.

There are several types of malocclusion diagnosable:

◦ Overbite (often called overshot, Class 2, highlight, or mandibular brachygnathism) ◦
weak bite (often called short bite, reverse scissor bite, prognathism, and Class 3)
◦ bite level (often called bite couples)
◦ Open bite (front teeth are missing when the mouth is closed) ◦
anterior cross bite (canine and premolars usually fit but one or more lower incisors are in front of the upper incisors) ◦
posterior crossbite (one or more premolar teeth overlap the top teeth) ◦
abject Boca or bite (one side of the jaw grows more than the other)
◦ Canine narrow base (the lower teeth projecting inward and can damage the upper palate)

The tips of the premolars (teeth just behind the canines) should touch the spaces between the premolars higher, so-called scissors bite. However, it is normal for flat-faced breeds (brachycephalic) and the Boxer, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apsos do not have scissor bites.

with an overbite, the upper jaw is longer than the lower. When the mouth is closed, a gap between the upper and lower incisors. In puppies born with an overbite often the problem will correct itself if the gap is not too large. However, a dog bite usually set at ten months old. At this age, improvement will not happen by itself. The overbite your pet may be worse when permanent teeth come in because they are bigger and can damage the soft tissues of the mouth. It is often necessary to extract teeth. Causes

The way in which the upper teeth align with the lower teeth is called occlusion. It is normal for most breeds have a slight overlap of the upper front teeth. When the jaw is closed, the upper canines (fangs) should fit in front of the lower canines. In most cases, the malocclusion is hereditary.

Treatment Most cases of malocclusion of the bite does not require treatment. In some cases, it may be necessary some extraction. It's a good idea to brush the teeth regularly to prevent abnormal accumulations of tartar and plaque. Sometimes your veterinarian will recommend a dental specialist if you want to correct the misalignment teeth.

In recent years, have created "braces" to realign the teeth of the puppies.
